Heather Cook recently entered into a Ver Poets members competition with two 10-line poems which were both selected for publishing in the Ver Anthology. Congratulations, Heather!

The second of her poems, ‘Sleeping Cat’ received a commendation, and you can find it at the bottom of this post for your reading pleasure, along with some of Heather’s inspiration for it (Battersea Billy and Stumpy Malone, her two rescue gorgeous cats).

Peter Hankins’s story, ‘The Largest Cave’ was shortlisted in the Letter Review Competition (the full list can be found here) and we are very proud of Peter! Congratulations! The Writers Circle had the privilege of immersion into part of this story which took us through a fantastica journey of hypothetical discovery of events that could have taken place throughout time in the largest cave in the world, had it been discovered.

SLEEPING CAT

Dog reads the dusty hedgerows,

tail wagging, stiffening, wagging

as he considers messages.

He would tell Cat everything,

but someone has poured her

over a sundrenched sill,

where she flows between trinkets,

one boneless leg spilling down the wall.

She is a study in sleeping,

devoid of angles and concerns.

Lovely Battersea Billy enjoying the sunshine
Gorgeous Stumpy Malone being the most catty he can be.
