by Liz Lennie

At our second Zoom meeting on Thursday 30 April Liz Lennie read these haiku, which were inspired by walking along the Basingstoke Canal with her husband Robin for exercise during lockdown. Here they are, with pictures from Liz as well.

Waking to birdsong,

Walkers talk, a distant train.

I listen, alone.

Liz Lennie haiku no 1

Along the canal

My walking meditation –

From movement to mind.

Liz Lennie haiku no 3

Borage blooms, blue stars,

Leaves point like soft spears

As spring warms the soil.

Liz Ldennie haiku wild garlic

Wild garlic revives

The smell and taste of childhood

Wanderings alone.

Liz Lennie haiku no 5

The garden, evening.

Old backs bend to rake dead leaves,

Clear space for spring growth.
